Brandon Connick Death, Obituary – The Grand Island, Nebraska, community is mourning the profound loss of Brandon S. Connick, a respected attorney, devoted husband and father, and dedicated community leader, who passed away on July 28, 2026, at the age of 48. His passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, colleagues, clients, and the countless people whose lives he touched through his legal career and unwavering commitment to serving others.
Born on October 24, 1977, in Aurora, Nebraska, Brandon was the son of Terry M. and Karen A. (Kaps) Connick. He was raised with strong values of integrity, faith, hard work, and compassion—qualities that would define both his personal and professional life. After graduating from Doniphan Public Schools in 1996, he attended the University of Nebraska, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2000.
Brandon’s greatest joy in life was his family. On June 1, 2002, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Stephanie Schaeffer, in Grand Island. Together they built a loving home and raised four children—Katelyn, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Jack—who remained the center of Brandon’s world. Friends and family often recall how proudly he spoke of his children, celebrating their accomplishments and encouraging them every step of the way. His love and devotion as a husband and father were evident in everything he did.
Driven by a passion for justice and service, Brandon continued his education at the Creighton University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude with his Juris Doctor degree in 2003. That same year, he joined Smith, Johnson, Allen, Connick & Hansen, where he quickly established himself as an exceptional attorney. In 2008, he became a partner in the firm, earning widespread respect for his professionalism, integrity, and thoughtful legal counsel.
Throughout more than two decades of legal practice, Brandon built a reputation as an attorney who genuinely cared about his clients. He approached every case with diligence, fairness, and compassion, understanding that behind every legal matter was a person seeking guidance and support. His colleagues admired his leadership, sound judgment, and unwavering commitment to excellence, while clients appreciated his honesty and dedication.
Outside the courtroom, Brandon believed deeply in giving back to the community that had given so much to him. He generously dedicated his time and talents to numerous charitable and civic organizations, including the Central Catholic Development Foundation, Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, Inc., Greater Grand Island Sunrise Rotary, Habitat for Humanity, and the Grand Island Riverdogs. His commitment to community service reflected his belief that true leadership meant making life better for others.
His many contributions earned well-deserved recognition throughout Nebraska. Brandon was a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow, Class of 2006, was honored as one of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce’s Top 35 Under 35, and served as a Nebraska State Bar Foundation Fellow. These achievements reflected not only his professional excellence but also his lasting commitment to civic engagement and ethical leadership.
While Brandon’s accomplishments were many, those closest to him say his greatest legacy lies in the way he treated people. He was known for his kindness, humility, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. Whether mentoring young attorneys, supporting charitable causes, or simply being present for a friend, Brandon consistently demonstrated compassion and integrity. He built meaningful relationships throughout his life and inspired countless people through his example.
Brandon is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie, and their four children, Katelyn, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Jack. He is also survived by his brother, Shad (Tanya) Connick, and his grandfather, Wayne Kaps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Terry M. and Karen A. Connick; his grandmother, Rose Kaps; his grandparents, Darrell M. Connick and Frances Prewitt; and his uncle, Steve Kaps.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, with Msgr. Mark Huber presiding and Bishop Emeritus Most Rev. William J. Dendinger and Rev. Donald A. Buhrman concelebrating. Inurnment will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, followed by a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Curran Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Grand Island Central Catholic Foundation or to Brandon’s family to support the future education of his children.
